What Is Fish Leather?

Fish leather is the heart of Moonrise's identity — a quietly extraordinary material, and the reason customers drive for hours to experience it.

Made from the skins of salmon, perch, and wolffish — byproducts of Iceland's seafood industry — our leather is processed at a geothermal-powered tannery in North Iceland. The result is a material that is stronger than cowhide, completely odor-free, and carries a distinctive scale pattern unique to every single piece.

Founder Meredith Lusk personally travels to Iceland each year to source the material and hand-select the colorways. There are over 150 colors available in our Cape Charles studio.
